Pfizer Inc. (NYSE; TAP, TAP-P) today announced that it has entered into an agreement with Teva Pharmaceutical Industries Ltd. (TSX: TEVA) to enter into a definitive agreement with Teva Pharmaceutical Industries Ltd. (TSX: TEVA) to provide generic and brand-name versions of its esomeprazole (Nexium) medication, Nexium, for retail distribution in Canada.
Under the terms of the agreement, Pfizer will supply all of its esomeprazole, Nexium, with the generics and brand-name products in the United States, Canada and in other countries for a total of $8.2 billion in annual sales.
Under the terms of the agreement, Pfizer will provide an upfront payment of $2.00 per tablet for each of the generics and branded products, excluding the cost of shipping. Pfizer will provide a second upfront payment of $3.00 per tablet. The upfront payment will cover shipping and handling of the medication. In addition, Pfizer will provide Teva a sole-and-ateral-spain certificate in all aspects of its business, including the development, marketing, pricing and sales of the product.
Teva Pharmaceuticals has agreed to pay $6.75 per tablet for all and all remainder of Nexium sales in the United States. Teva Pharmaceuticals will receive royalties on the sales of Nexium through 2023, including marketing rights in Canada and in Puerto Rico.

AstraZeneca has launched its second generic competition in the US, following the introduction of a cheaper alternative, AstraZeneca's 'Esomeprazole' (Ozempic).
Esomeprazole, a once-daily tablet of the drug that combines Esomeprazole Magnesium and Nexium, is the second generics medicine to be launched in the US. It's the first of these so-called "repetitive generics" to be launched in the US.
The 'Esomeprazole' generic competition, launched in the US in July, opens the gap for AstraZeneca for the first time and thus provides AstraZeneca with the first generic competitor in the US. The competition is a significant loss for AstraZeneca.

The new launch will be the first generic competition of the 'Esomeprazole' drug with an equivalent dose of the drug in Europe.

In the US, AstraZeneca launched its second-biggest prescription medicine, Nexium, in November 2018. The drug, which is called Nexium, has been in the US market for over two years and is the 12th most commonly prescribed medicine in the US.
Nexium, which AstraZeneca markets in the US, was launched in Europe in July. The brand was launched in the UK in August.
AstraZeneca has also launched its own generic competition, in December.

Description
Nexium 20mg Capsules, containing Prilosec ER, work to improve the heart’s ability to pump blood around the body. Each capsule contains the active ingredient Prilosec ER, which reduces the effects of a chemical messenger called epinephrine. This medicine is used in adults and should be used with caution in elderly patients. Prilosec ER may be taken with or without food. Drink a full glass of water with each meal that contains fat. Take Prilosec ER at least 4 hours before or 6 hours after taking a meal that contains fat. Tell your doctor if your condition persists or worsens. Take Prilosec ER 1 to 2 hours before or 6 hours before or after taking antacids, iron, calcium, or magnesium containing stools. Take Prilosec ER 2 to 4 hours before or 4 hours after taking antacids, iron, calcium, or magnesium containing stools. Do not take antacids, iron, calcium, or magnesium containing stools within 2 hours after taking Prilosec ER. Iron can be taken with or without food. Take iron with or without food, as directed by your doctor. Take iron for at least 2 days before or 6 hours after iron supplementation. Continue taking iron with your daily dose of iron. Contraindications

How to Use
Do not take this medicine if you have a condition that requires it, if you are taking any other medication, if you are pregnant or breastfeeding, or if you have kidney or liver disease.
Missed Dose
If you forget to take Prilosec ER 20mg Capsules, take it as soon as you remember. If it is almost time for your next dose, skip the missed dose and go back to your regular dosing schedule. Do not take extra medicine to make up the missed dose.
